FAQ’s

OK, so I’d thought I’d make it easy and topline answers to questions I get asked a lot about the move to Colombia:

1. Will the weather be hot and with a beach nearby?

This is the most common misconception about living in Bogota. Yes, it will definitely be warmer than London most times of the year, but Bogota is 2,500 meters above sea level, so it’s not as hot as if at sea level. So this answers the second part of the question, there is no beach nearby. But the plus side is that you are a short flight from two oceans; the Atlantic (Caribbean) and the Pacific, plus with a wide variety of stunning landscapes and tropical climates, being based in the capital has it’s advantages.

2. Where will you live?

I’ll be staying in my aunt’s spare room in North Bogota. It’s a large apartment located in the affluent area which is near the best bars, restaurants and shopping the city has to offer. In fact everything is within easy walking distance or a cheap cab ride away. I am very fortunate to be given the opportunity to live here, and to me, it’s the most beautiful city in the world.

3. What will you do for a job?

Hmmm, good question. I’m not sure yet, will keep you posted.

4. How long will you stay for?

Another good question. My return flight is in February so that’s the earliest time I’ll return to London. But if all goes well, I will stay longer. I’ll keep you posted on the blog.

5. Is everything really cheap there?

Yes and no. For cigarettes, beer, taxis, buses and small errands / DIY jobs then yes, you’re laughing. But in general life in Bogota can almost be on par with Britain. Imported goods are especially expensive as they carry a heavy import tax so it’s cheaper to get these items from the USA or UK! Plus, they don’t seem to have great offers like 3 for 2 that we take for granted in Britain.
